‘IN CONVERSATION’

Tap dance star Danny Nielsen’s vibrant collaboration with renowned Bulgarian pianist/percussionist Kristian Alexandrov ‘In Conversation’, delves into the symbiotic relationship between tap and jazz. With Miles Hill on bass ‘In Conversation’ is a fresh take on a beloved art form: a wonderful celebration of tap and musical artistry.Touching on new takes of old standards, and original music, the two co-create a performance drawing on everything from traditional and contemporary jazz toR&B, hip hop and rock.

Danny Nielsen is one of the leaders of tap dance in Canada. His prolific technical skill and musical sensibility launched him on to the international stage at age 23. Danny has taught and performed at many national and international tap festivals and was an integral part of Vancouver based dance company Radical System Art's (Shay Kuebler) production Telemetry. The show was a hit and toured for over 3 years at notable venues such as the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Place Des Arts in Montreal The Chutzpah! Festival in Vancouver and the White Bird Dance Series in Portland. Danny has created several self-produced projects including sold out runs of his newest creation ‘In Conversation’ with Bulgarian pianist/percussionist Kristian Alexandrov, directed by Houston's Matt Shields.

Originally from Sofia, Bulgaria,Vancouver-based recording artist Kristian Alexandrov is an accomplished, versatile and sought-after pianist, drummer, composer & producer with a burgeoning list of industry honours, high-profile collaborations and lauded international performances to his credit.

Kristian grew up in a family of musicians who revered and celebrated music. Kristian’s natural ability, extensive music training and passion for performance enabled him to tour throughout most of Europe before he was out of his teens. His ability to effortlessly move between different musical styles has earned him a reputation as a leading figure in Canada's music scene, where he has been active since 1995.

Onstage Kristian has worked alongside some tremendous and renowned Canadian and International artists, including:  Warren Hill, James Ehnes, Measha Brueggergosman, Jackie Richardson, Wycliffe Gordon, kd lang, The Tenors, Senator Tommy Banks, All Star Brass, Danny Nielsen, Order of Canada Big Band, Akaga, Tom Jackson and Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and Youth Singers of Calgary. Kristian is a long-standing musical director and collaborator for acclaimed trumpeter Jens Lindemann & Acoustic Soul recording artist Shannon Gaye.

MILES FOXX HILL

Miles Foxx Hill is a bassist, recording engineer, and composer. As an electric and acoustic bass player, he has worked with some of the world’s biggest music names including Van Morrison, Michael Buble, Chad Kroeger of Nickleback and the Brazilian jazz superstar Ivan Lins. Miles is known for his profound sense of time, unique arrangements and diverse musical styles. He has played on over 600 recordings that cover the musical spectrum, from jazz, funk, and tango to country and rock.
